BANGALORE: Duty doctors at the Minto Eye Hospital will be issued show-cause notices for delayed treatment of two children bitten by a stray dog on Thursday night.

Priya (2) was bitten near the eye and her brother Santosh was bitten near the mouth. Both are from Parvathipura Layout. The parents had to go from pillar to post for treatment.

Health and family welfare minister R Ashok visited Minto Eye Hospital on Saturday following media reports that there was negligence in treating the girl. Ashok and medical education minister V S Acharya said the children were responding well to treatment.

"They have been treated with anti-rabies serum in KIMS Hospital and are now in Minto hospital. Besides an ophthalmologist, a paediatrician is attending to the duo.

Priya has deep injuries  the left lower eyelid was torn along with the cheek, the face is swollen up and blood clots are visible on the open wounds. The medical tests, according to sources, say the child's vision is fine.

Doctors have slated her for plastic surgery. "There was negligence on the part of doctors for an entire day though the child suffered from bites on her face and eyes. There is no excuse for this," Ashok said.

Hospital director A R Aruna denied any negligence. She told the Sunday Times of India: "The patient was brought only on Friday night and she is being attended to without delay.We are not at fault."
